FAQ
What areas do you serve?
We primarily serve the Chattanooga, TN area and surrounding communities. If you are outside that area, reach out anyway. If the project is a good fit, we will tell you what is possible.
What is the fastest way to reach you?
Texting is the fastest option. Spam calls are constant, so texts get priority.
Do you offer free estimates?
I start with a consultation visit. That visit is $150, and if you move forward with the project, the consultation fee is credited toward your final invoice.
Why do you charge for a consultation?
Because a real quote requires real planning. On-site I evaluate access, slope, drainage, utilities, placement, style options, and the level of filtration you actually need. That prevents surprise costs later and helps the build go smoothly.
What should I text you to get started?
A few photos or a short video of the area, plus:
- What you want (pondless waterfall, koi pond, stream, fountain, swim pond, liner replacement, etc.)
- A rough size idea (small, medium, large)
- Any “must-haves” (lighting, stepping stones, fish, low maintenance, etc.)
Do you build koi ponds?
Yes. I design and build koi ponds with proper filtration and plumbing so the water stays clear and the fish stay healthy.
What is the difference between a koi pond and a decorative pond?
A koi pond is built around filtration and fish health (deeper water, stronger circulation, better filtration). A decorative pond can be smaller and simpler, usually focused more on plants and visuals.
What is a pondless waterfall?
A pondless waterfall is a waterfall that disappears into a hidden underground reservoir. It gives you the sound and look of moving water with less maintenance and no open pond.
Which is lower maintenance, koi pond or pondless waterfall?
In most cases, pondless waterfalls are the lowest maintenance option. Koi ponds can still be very manageable, but they require more consistent filtration care and seasonal attention.
Do you offer maintenance?
Yes. I offer recurring maintenance and service plans, plus seasonal cleanouts and one-time repairs.
Do you work on existing ponds and water features?
Yes. I can troubleshoot pumps, leaks, plumbing, filtration issues, poor water clarity, algae problems, and more. I also do upgrades and rebuilds when needed.
Can you help if my water is green?
Yes. Green water usually means algae growth and/or filtration issues. The fix depends on sunlight, nutrient load, circulation, filtration type, and maintenance habits. I can recommend a plan that actually works for your specific setup.
Do you do leak detection?
Yes, depending on the type of feature. Some leaks are simple (plumbing, fittings, waterfalls splashing outside the liner). Others require more involved testing. I can tell you the most likely causes during a consultation.
How long do projects take?
It depends on the size and complexity. Some projects are a few days, others take longer. After I see the site and finalize the design, I can give you a realistic timeline.
What affects the price the most?
The biggest factors are:
- Access to the build area
- Size and elevation change
- Stone selection (especially large boulders)
- Filtration and plumbing complexity
- Electrical, lighting, and automation
Do you offer financing?
If you are interested in financing, ask during the consultation and I will tell you what options are available for your project type.
Can you build something that looks natural, not “cookie-cutter”?
Yes. Natural builds are my specialty. Rock selection and placement matter more than people realize, and that is where a feature goes from “fine” to “wow.”
Will a waterfall attract frogs and wildlife?
Yes, it can. Water features often bring frogs, birds, and other wildlife. Fun fact: frogs sometimes start croaking almost immediately when a waterfall turns on.
Is a water feature safe for kids and pets?
Safety depends on the type of feature and layout. Pondless waterfalls are often a safer choice because there is no open pond. For ponds, we can discuss design options like shallow shelves, barriers, and placement to improve safety.
What do I need to do before you arrive?
Usually nothing major. If possible, clear obvious obstacles and make sure gates are unlocked. If you have underground utilities or septic components, it helps to mention those up front.
How do I schedule a consultation?
Text is best. If you cannot text, use the consultation form and I will follow up to schedule a visit.
